As mentioned earlier, the SSDL found in the .edmx file is used to formally describe the persistence store used with the EDM. The SSDL is similar to the CSDL, with the biggest difference being the data types used in the metadata. In the case of the SSDL, the data types being described are those from the database, whereas in the CSDL, the data types are those of the object model (that is, .NET types). Listing 5-2 shows the matching SSDL for Listing 5-1, which is a condensed version of what you created earlier in this chapter. In Listing 5-2, you can see that the structure and the nodes used are identical to the CSDL in Listing 5-1. There are only a few differences between this example and the CSDL example. One difference is the value of the Type attribute that is part of the <Property> node. In this example, you can see that the types that are specified are database types, not .NET types (for example, nvarchar and smallint).
